Secret of Memoria - Chapter 1: In The Beginning...

 

 All across the fields of the Frontier, known to those that live here as the Nostal Fields, the land was coming alive again with the sights and sounds of the spring season. Wildflowers were once again painting the plains with their varying shapes, sizes, and colors, standing out in contrast against the plush grass that had steadily been turning green since the month began.

The twitter of bird life had come with the flow of warmer air into the expansive valley, along with the larger waterfowl and some aerial monsters as well. All were hitching a ride on the warming air that flowed from the south now that the coattails of Old Man Winter had rolled back up north, as the old folk like to say.

Spending the sort of money that I did on these controllers so late into the console's life, when the successor is literally three months away, probably wasn't the best monetary move on my part. 

But I am glad I did because I will be doing the same thing if this seller offers similar options for Switch 2 joycon down the road. 

Saying Goodbye to my Launch Day Animal Crossing New Horizons Town

 

Tomorrow, March 20th, 2025, marks the five-year anniversary of two pretty big events this decade. First, it was the official beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, but more importantly, it was the launch day of the biggest Animal Crossing game to date: Animal Crossing New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch.

To say that I had a ton of fun in that town would be an understatement. Brickhedge was a whole huge thing, even having a long-running video series on my old Youtube channel following my first two years in the game. 

I loved the town name so much that I reused it in my series of Furry Literature called 'Last Tail'.

But that's where the town name of Brickhedge ends. For you see, I had initially planned to name every town I start in the Animal Crossing series going forward 'Memoria', but the intrigue of being able to name a village with longer than average names was too good an opportunity to pass up.

But now, on the even of New Horizon's fifth birthday, I am ready to begin anew in the world of Animal Crossing. In preperation of the Switch 2 and wanting to design a new town that leans less to the Main Street asthetic and more a rustic, English village, I have decided to start a new town on the game's anniversary.

And it shall be named Memoria, as will the town in the title that proceeds, and so on and so on.

But before I wave goodbye to Memoria, I'd like to share some screenshots showing the interiror of my little town house before it gets transferred to my launch day Switch unit for eternal presevation.

Inside the house is the main living room. Doorways to the left, right and back each lead to important locations. I went with a simple wooden look for the inside here. Not quite a cabin, but close enough.

I am quite happy with how the bathroom turned out too. Though I don't think I'll dedicate a room to my bathroom in the next town.

To the left of the main room is my media area. I went with a darker look for this room versus the rest of the house as I wanted that cool, dark cinema-viewing vibe.

The backroom is the kitchen, which is densely decorated and full of all the goodies needed to whip together a top notch meal.

The basement is, well, the basement.

Finally, my bedroom. Same flooring as the base level, but with a blue theme and wall as opposed to the green look seen downstairs. 

Sitting beside my TV as it always has is my Nintendo Switch. Ready to go first thing in the morning while I wait for Gamestop to open up so that I can pick up my copy of Xenoblade X and my Pyra & Mythra amiibo.

My Switch collection is reborn! 

Two years ago, after I quit my old job and had to get some quick cash together, the most obvious option was to sell off my Switch library since I had been using the Steam Deck as my primary gaming device. 

Now here we are, the collection rebuilt in a magnificent new form, absent of a lot the throwaway titles that I plagued my old library. 

My intentions later this year is to get my Switch OLED hard modded and used as my primary emulation device. 

Secret of Nostalgia

Getting hit by bursts of nostalgia is wild, particularly when driving. I keep my playlist of shuffle, and of the tens of thousands of songs on my phone, if it shuffles a track from the Secret of Mana soundtrack, it feels like getting hit by a burst of air. I love that game and it's soundtrack so much. 

Nintendo Switch 2 Era - Part 1: The Direct Day Plan

 

Oh, how I adore Nintendo. Sure, they have their huge faults and can be very anti-consumer with the way they handle things, particularly on the fan project side of things. But man, I can't help but love them. 

Abusive relationship? Absolutely.

With the Switch 2 rumored to launch in early summer 2025, and with the Direct, barring any huge disasters in the world, set to air April 2nd, my plan of action is beginning to come together as we draw closer to the date. And with that, I'm just gonna talk about my intentions for the day of and the day after.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is going to air on the morning of Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025, at 9am Eastern Time. I'll be up loooong before that to prep myself. Get a big pot of coffee going and maybe even breakfast of some sort. Gonna get a new scented wax melt specifically for the event and have that going as well, as I like to tie special events to smells. 

After the presentation, I'm gonna head out for grocery shopping for the day to get stuff for a dinner that I can only refer to as "White People Making Tacos". But before I even do that, my plan is to run by GameStop and chat up some of the employees to find out if anything had been communicated with them regarding pre-orders at that point. Depending on the answer, I may or may not be back the next morning, say around 7am, to wait outside for the store to open to secure myself an additional pre-order should the one I get following the Direct fall through.

Personally, I'm hoping that the Official Nintendo Store site itself offers pre-orders on the console. Getting it right from the source would make me feel a whole heck of a lot better. I'm absolutely terrified of mail getting delayed or, worse, getting stolen when it comes to stuff like this, hence why I also plan to get a pre-order in person and sell the other one off (at sticker price) to someone that may not be as lucky.

Along with the console, my checklist of additional purchases are as such:

• Games (Duh)
• Pro Controller
• Screen Protector (Already taken care of)
• Case (Already taken care of)
• Grip (Already taken care of)

My plan before that is to have all of my debt paid off when the next statement comes down later this month. I want to put everything on credit and just use the monthly payments to bolster my credit score.

Launch day plans haven't come close to being finalized as of yet, but I plan to take my vacation from work that week just to stay at home and play the blasted thing before they pull me away again.

Avantasia's 'Here Be Dragons'

It's hard to say exactly where this falls for me right now, but my initial impressions are that it's definitely better than their previous album, Mooflower Society and Paper Plane notwithstanding. A lot of the songs on 'Here Be Dragons' have more of the energy of an Edguy album as opposed to the whimsical, orchestral nature typically associated with Sammet's ventures with this band.

I've dabbled with it in the past, but never put much time into it. I was always more partial to the Squaresoft take on the franchise. 

But I loved the style just the same, and enjoyed the heck out of Bug Fables, so I figured it was time to dive in to the game that started the style.

I've got two pieces of Advrik in his feral form, and both of them are on the tougher(or just flat-out vicious) side, which, while they reflect his feral personality more, I wanted something that showed him a bit mellower. When I saw Kitchiki about to retire a set of YCH poses, the thirteenth one caught my eye, and I knew I had to have it.
