Godzilla Versus - Prologue, Act 3 (Godzilla Vs. 'The Last Dinosaur'

 

The not-dinosaur's massive head smashed into the soft dirt, sending a shockwave that knocked Sevii and Laik, along with several villagers, off their feet. The monster's giant maw clapped shut over the portal—along with a villager or two.
Muffled screams poured from the monster's mouth, fading with distance as the monster reared back.
"Go, now!" Laik yelled, climbing to his feet while Sevii helped others to their own. Together, the wolf and fox ushered the stun locked people to safety, tossing them into the rift, one after the other.
People screamed in terror at the sight of the giant's eye, exposed as the creature tilted its head sideways like a bird, drawn once again by the aura from Laik's teleportal. A snake-like hiss escaped its maw as it worked out the scenario below as a large glob of saliva escaping the corner of its mouth.
It struck the ground nearby, splashing its sickly fluids onto an escaping villager; a young woman beastfolk; a triceratops herself, long since separated from her originating species by millions of years.
The woman screamed in bloody terror, swiping madly at her arm where the fluid had touched her scaly skin. She threw herself away from the portal to safety; smacking against the ground as she tried helplessly to wipe the fluid away, but to no avail.
Laik funneled the last of the villagers into the rift and had been stepping through himself as the woman cried out in agony.
"Go, I'll get her!" Sevii shouted. Laik, in an unusual state of hesitancy, looked at the fox as she rushed toward the woman crying out in agony on the meadow floor, then up at not-dinosaur.
Right as it was bringing its massive foot down on him.

Godzilla Verus - Prologue, Act 2

 

A dull thud from somewhere fall off, like a distant thunderstorm drew Sevii's back from the brink of sleep, fighting it as she had all night; her anxiety mixed with anger over how the planned 'fun-filled return home' had turned out.
Knowing the military, they probably just bombed a cave shut or something, the fox thought as she felt herself start to drift back to the sleep state her body yearned for.
Boom.
Another rumble in the night, closer this time. Storms tended to sweep through pretty fast out here on the plains. "At least that hasn't changed…" she whispered.
The NDF had been silent since they delivered their dinners two hours ago, slipping it through the tiny slat at the bottom of the door with a large rod, like she was a caged, dangerous animal or something. Everyone was being so accepting of the situation, which only infuriated the fox more.
Had it been any of their families, locked up in a shed somewhere just like this, forced against their will—
Boom~
The ground shook this time, rattling the empty plastic cups sitting atop their empty food trays. The fox's eyes opened wide. Thunder didn't cause the ground the shake—
Boom!
The entire shack rattled, sending the hastily placed metal plates lining the walls into a chaotic, frantic symphony of deafening sound. Laik and the others shot up out of their bedrolls in a panic.
Boom!
"Sevii, what's going—" Sirens blared, drowning out the wolf's question as the voices of soldiers joined the wailing emergency alert. "Is the base under attack?"
The fox pressed her back against the wall, holding her finger to her muzzle in the shushing gesture as she heard heavy-booted footsteps outside the building. "Stay. Down." She said, positioned beside the door.
Boom!
The ground shook violently this time as the door slid open. The young soldier that had escorted them from Lakeside stepped in, firearm held at the ready. He shone a flashlight on the sleeping beastfolk. "You need to get out of here, now—"
Sevii attacked! Kicking the soldier in the leg, causing him to kneel. The muzzle of the soldier's AR now within reach, she grabbed it and yanked the gun forward, pulling the soldier with it as his training kicked in, doubling down his grip on the weapon—an act that served to his own detriment as a Sevii delivered a powerful blow to the man's face that knocking him into a daze.
BOOM!
An explosion illuminated the outside as the soldier fell limp. The building shook violently, metal plates dislodging from the wall against the force of the shockwave.
"C'mon, let's go find my family and the rest of the villagers!" Sevii said as she removed the ammo cartridge from the soldier's gun. Whatever was going on out there, she doubted this would do him any good, anyway.

 Had spent my writing time working on the Secret of Mana ReCollection today, so no progress on CrossActs. But I got this neat graphic at least.

"For real, Laik, it's going to be fine. You'll get a few odd looks, maybe someone will stop and ask you if you've met before, and then you'll have the same old back and forth you've had with everyone else you've encountered over the last month, and then you'll part ways…" Sevii paused, chewing on what to say next as the wolf rummaged through his dresser for clean clothes.
"Heck, you might even know them! This is Lakeside after all: You grew up there!"
Laik slammed the first drawer shut, then pulled open the second one. Looking at the clothes in his wardrobe with a feeling of confusion. He pulled out a pair of athletic underwear and said, "I… When did I start wearing clothes?"
Sevii blushed and looked away. "That is such a weird question, wolf. And stop ignoring me, would'ja?!"
"Look, Sev, it's not because it's Lakeside or that I haven't been home in nearly a decade. With Nostal like it is right now, everyone suddenly having memories and whatnot of events that clearly did not happen—"
"Blah, blah, blah! So the planet's going through a bit of mass hysteria right now. You ever heard of confabulation?"
Laik's muzzle scrunched up at the sound of the word. "That sounds like you stumbled over multiple words all at the same time."

ReCollection: Secret of Mana

 "Time flows like a river,"

 "and history repeats..."

 

I really do not know what else I could possibly have to say about my history with Secret of Mana that I haven't gone over two or more dozen times over the last decade, but darn it, I'm going to try anyway! 

Secret of Mana, known in Japan as Seiken Densetsu 2, was released for the Super Nintendo in the US in October 1993. Just around the time I was really beginning to look at video games in a more serious light, beyond being something my older brother owned and would sometimes let me play around with.

I'd inherit my brother's SNES console the following year, and it was over the course of 1994 that I gradually found myself developing my tastes in video games, largely through the trial and error process of rentals! Yeah, remember those? Going into a rental store, especially locally-owned Mom and Pop joints, usually meant renting games based on the cartridge label and name alone. The boxes were usually discarded and the instruction booklets seldomly placed alongside the rental games. 

Sure gaming magazines were a thing, and I could read (not very well, but I could read!), but who wanted to read if it didn't involve school(even then...)?! Well, low and  behold, my discovery of the RPG genre had turned my whole opinion on reading in my video games around.

Before acquiring my copy of Secret of Mana, which I will get to here shortly, I gotta talk about the event that lead to be finding out what an RPG even was, and name a few of the games that helped spark interest in the genre.
