Laik's Summer Game Fest 2026 Wishlist and Predicitons!

 

Who's ready for Summer Game Fest 2026, the biggest video game corporation shillathon of the year? Me, that's who! (Hey, if I'm forced to live in a world run by CEOs and their corporations, I might as well side with the ones that deliver products that bring me some joy, eh?)

Joking aside, in light of E3's passing in recent years, I do appreciate the effort Geoff Keighley has made to replace it to an extent with his Summer Game Fest event every year; an event that, like his Game Awards in December, has seen pretty substantial growth year over year.

Glossing over the full schedule for the event, there are a dozen if not more streams and Nintendo Direct-inspired events happening over the weekend following the big show on Friday the 5th, including my beloved Wholesome Direct and the Xbox Presents event, the latter of which is going to be an interesting watch considering the recent shift in direction the XBOX brand has made in recent months.

Today, May 27th, leaves us with less than one week away from the unofficial start of SFG'26, beginning with the big State of Play event from Sony. And while I am strictly a Nintendo platform-only kind of wolf, I adore video gaming in general and thus take pleasure in the festivities of announcements and excitement around them, even if I don't personally plan to play any particular world-shattering announcement. 

I wish more people were like this instead of arguing over who's platform has the better games, but alas.

So now with the preface out of the way, it's time to get into the meat of this post, yeah? This will separated into two lists: My realistic predictions, just based on what I see and hear around the gameosphere, some will be grounded, fueled by leaks, while others will be my own analysis which factor in timing of past releases and other aspects from things I've personally noticed.

These are also all encompassing of the event as a whole and not related to one specific stream. The only event to get its own such thing is 

Anyway, onto the meat of it!

 

Predictions / Expectations

• Shots will be fired during the opening ceremony by Geoff himself. His crosshairs firmly fixed on the existence of GenAI and the people and developers that employ it.
• A new entry in the Story of Seasons series will be announced. It will be an actual new game and not a remake/reimagining of an older title like last year's Grand Bazaar. It will release in Summer 2027.
• Devil May Cry 5 *Something Dante Edition* for all platforms, including Switch 2.
• New Sonic the Hedgehog project will be announced. Either an actual new game, or a remaster(hopefully Unleashed, probably Frontiers).
• Square-Enix will bestow upon us the reveal trailer and release date for the third part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy and it will be glorious. All consoles. March 2027.
• In addition, Rudra's Treasure will get its long deserved HD2D remake for all consoles and will release worldwide. The magic naming system will be further fleshed out and modernized. Autumn 2026
• Resident Evil IX Requiem DLC reveal trailer.
• "But wait, there's more" a Capcom says, going into a Resident Evil Code Veronica remake trailer. February 2027. All consoles!
•  Mega Man Dual Override finally gets a full reveal and the first two Robot Master designs, along with a release window. March 2027!
• No sign of a Mega Man Legends Legacy Collection.
• Crazy Taxi and Golden Axe reboots revealed to much excitement. 
• The Witcher 3 Switch 2 Edition shadow drop. 

Hopes

• The long awaited (and rumored) remake of Chrono Trigger HD2D remake is finally announced for late 2026.
• Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII remaster of some sort to help bridge those last gaps between the World of FF7 and the Remakes.
• Witchbrook shadow drop.
• Sonic Mania 2, or a similar game developed by Christian Whitehead and crew.

Wishes

• Tribute Games-developed arcade style beat-em up based on the Toho Godzilla universe with some Monsterverse crossover DLC down the road.
• Sega and Square-Enix team up for a turn-based Sonic the Hedgehog RPG. Unique art style and a battle system derived from the Mario RPG formula.
• Resident Evil Legacy Collection containing RE1(OG and DC), RE2, RE3 and Gun Survivor. All consoles. This October.
• Dragon Ball Goku. A follow-up to Dragon Ball Z Kakarot that tells the story of OG Dragon Ball and all of the movies.
